Portovenere or Lerici + Luni + Sarzana (Full Day)

By choosing the tour Portovenere or Lerici + Luni + Sarzana (Full Day) you will find an uneven coastline, protected by ancient castles and overwhelmed by an unique flora. A fantastic view that you’ll never forget!

PORTOVNERE option: we will pick up you in La Spezia and we will easily reach Porto Venere which the picturesque maritime village dates back to the 12th century; with its multicolored houses and its calm and relaxed pace, reminds the magic lost times. St. Peter church, that still today seems to protect the village from the pirates, had been built in 1277 on top of the ruins of a old Christian church (5th century), in the same place where existed a pagan temple dedicated to the goddess Venus.

LERICI option: we will pick up you in La Spezia and we will easily reach Lerici, the mild climate and its geographical position, low (low/moderate/high) reachable but secluded, make of Lerici a destination worth visited all year round. The brilliant green of the Mediterranean vegetation, the multicolored blooming, and the rich blue of the sea characterize this extreme strip of Liguria which for ages hosts and inspires international artists.
Its Genuine fortress (13th century) still today admonishes from the distance the boats which look for a shelter in the near Gulf of La Spezia.

This tour proceeds to Luni and Malaspina Castle… Natural landing by the ancient Magra river’s mouth, very probably used by the Etruscans and controlled by the Ligurian, earlier became roman military port and later colony in the 180 B.C. Leading now to Fosdinovo: its origins and fortune are tied to the new road track (fauce nuova = the new pass), across the coast and the inside valleys of eastern Lunigiana, willed by the Bishop of Luni in the 11th century. In the 1340 Spinetta Malaspina “The Great”, took possession of Fosdinovo giving rise to the dynasty which will dominate the village and the castle until 1797.
This tour proceeds to discover Sarzana in a unique way! Take a stroll in the main street, be amazed at its beautiful palaces and learn more about the history of the city, its art and culture. It will seem to be back in time, sitting in an old fashion cafe’, tasting delicious delights, cakes, ice cream or cappuccino and marveling at beautiful Art-Nuveau details. Whether your are planning to spend just few hours or an entire day out, Sarzana will offer you many opportunities to enjoy your time with family or friends. Not far from La Spezia, Sarzana is the perfect location if you want to do something different and unique. More over the city offers a great shopping opportunities for the entire family!

A Pinch of History…

The Province of La Spezia is spread over an area two-thirds of which is covered by dense forest, it is furrowed by transparent streams and rivers, this land has been shaped by man creating stunning scenery. We only have to think about the vineyards overlooking the sea and the villages of the Cinque Terre, the hills around Levanto and Luni, the olive trees, crops and livestock and the Val di Vara, known as the organic Valley.

The history of the area can be seen in the ancient Roman city of Luni, and in villages scattered in the hills of the Riviera of La Spezia, also in the Val di Vara, in the Val di Magra and towns bordering the Gulf of Poets. In La Spezia, Lerici and Porto Venere, the beautiful decorated facades of the buildings, churches, castles, squares and alleys narrate the history of these communities, enchanting visitors all through the year.
